SPECTER3D models — the Tacview project
370 of the 630 models shipped with Specter were made by the Tacview project and its contributors.
They are used under the GNU General Public License, version 3.0, the licence the project publishes them under. All credit for that geometry belongs to Tacview and the people who contributed to it.

The Tacview public repository exists so the community can share work that extends Tacview, and its models were contributed by many people. Its README asks visitors to “be respectful of the work of others”. This page is part of doing that.
Individual model authors are not named in the upstream files, so per-model credit cannot be given from the data. If you contributed a model to that repository and would like to be named here, email us and we will add you.
What this means for you
Those 370 files are licensed to you under GPL-3.0, which grants you rights in them — including copying, modifying and redistributing them — that are broader than Specter's own licence grants. Nothing in Specter's EULA restricts those rights. The .obj files as shipped are their own source form, and the full licence text ships in 3dobjects/LICENSE alongside them.

A correction. Earlier builds of Specter described this model collection as Apache-2.0 licensed and did not name its source. That was wrong. The models are Tacview's, under GPL-3.0, and the packaged licence text and attribution were corrected in September 2026. The geometry itself was never altered.
Elevation data
Specter's terrain heightmaps are built from public-domain elevation datasets. The full record of which datasets, and their terms, ships with the application in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
Software libraries
Specter is written in Rust and stands on a large amount of open-source work — among it wgpu for graphics, egui for the interface, winit for windowing, nalgebra for the maths, and many more. Nearly all are MIT or Apache-2.0 licensed.
Every library, its purpose and its licence is listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, which ships in the application folder and is also served from /updates/THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
Trademarks and independence
Specter is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Eagle Dynamics SA, Raia Software Inc., Microsoft Corporation or Gaijin Entertainment. “DCS World” and “Tacview” are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.
Using Tacview's models under their public licence does not imply any endorsement of Specter by Tacview or by Frantz Raia.
